إن الدافع الأظهر لدراسة أثر الموروث الجاهلي في الشعر العربي المعاصر، هو تلك المكانة الكبيرة التي حظي بها الموروث الجاهلي على صعيد اللغة والأدب، ويكاد الباحث يطالع في كل كتب من كتب موروثنا الحضاري الممتد موروثه الجاهلي ماثلاً بعز وشموخ، شاهداً على اللغة والتفسير والحديث والأعلام والأيام والأماكن وغيرها، ومصدر لإلهام الشعراء.
ولا تسعى هذه الدراسة إلى إستقراء تمظهرات الموروث الجاهلي والوقوف عند حدود توظيفها في الشعر العربي المعاصر فحسب، وإنما تسعى إلى جانب ذلك إلى محاولة تأطير المنهج العام لهذا النسق الأسلوبي الشعري المعاصر بإجراء سابق يتمثل في توضيح الأبعاد النظرية والعوامل المهيئة لإنبثاق التوظيف سمة من سمات الحداثة الشعرية، ولا يكتمل التصور العام للدراسة إلا بإجراء لاحق يبحث في آليات التوظيف التي يقدر الباحث أهميتها في رفد التجارب الشعرية بالأدوات المناسبة لإستجلاء أبعاد التوظيف الفنية، وميز القدرات المتباينة لدى الشعراء المعاصرين في التواصل مع القديم بالسمت الجديد.
أمّا في الجانب التاريخي لجذور هذه الظاهرة، فإن جملة من المصادر والمراجع قد أشارت إلى إنصراف كثير من الشعراء في العصور الإسلامية الزاهرة، وما تلاها إلى إعادة النظر في الموروث الجاهلي، والإستفادة منه على مستوى الشكل والمضمون، في تقاطعات تتقارب حيناً وتتباعد حيناً آخر، دفعت النقاد والأدباء إلى الوقوف على هذه الظاهرة بالبحث والتنظير بما لا تستقيم الإفاضة فيه مع موضوع الدراسة.
وتعد هذه الدراسة إستكمالاً للجهود السابقة في هذا الإطار، في محاولة لتجاوز الآليات التي كانت تقف عند حدودها الدراسات السابقة، وقد جاءت هذه الدراسة في تمهيد وثلاثة فصول وخاتمة وملخص: يعرض بإيجاز الإرهاصات الأولى الممهدة لظهور الشعر المعاصر إبتداء من حركة الإحياء، وصولاً إلى أواخر العقد الرابع من القرن الماضي، ثم مرحلة التجديد التي أخذت الشكل الشعري المعاصر - التفعيلة -، وإتجاهاته، وواقعه، مع وقفة إزاء الموروث الجاهلي من حيث دلالته في اللغة والإصطلاح، ونظرة عامة في الأدب الجاهلي، أشكاله، وأغراضه.
