سبقني في الكتابة في عروض الخليل أساتذة كبار، تعلمنا على أيديهم، ولكنني عبر صفحات هذا الكتاب، أعدت الترتيب، وذيلت الموضوعات بتدريبات كثيرة في محاولة مني للتيسير على القارئ، وما صنعت هذا إلا حبًا وتقديرًا لهذا العلم الجليل (علم العروض).
وقد جعلت القسم الأول من الكتاب خاصًا بأوزان الشعر العربي القديم (البحور الخليلية)، وما يعتريها من زحافات وعلل، بالإضافة إلى القافية، وأنواعها، وضوابط البحور، والأوزان القديمة، غير الخليلية، كل هذا مشفوعًا بتدريبات.
وقد خصصت القسم الثاني من الكتاب لدراسة إيقاعات الشعر المعاصر إيمانًا منا بأن كل شيء في الوجود آيل للتغيير- لا محالة- فقد تطور البناء الشعري، واختلفت أشكاله وموسيقاه، وهذا أمر طبيعي يؤكد صحة مسيرة أدبنا العربي.
وعبر سطور هذا الكتاب- إن شاء الله تعالى- نعرض لشعرنا العربي المعاصر، وما طرأ عليه من تغير موسيقي، في محاولة لاستخلاص القواعد العامة والسمات التي أفرزها تغير شكل القصيدة مع عرض لنصوص شعرية من شعر التفعيلة، وقصيدة النثر، لاستكشاف إيقاعات هذا الشكل الجديد الذي اخترق البحور الخليلية وضرب بأوزان الشعر القديم عرض الحائط، واضعين نصب أعيننا التزام الحياد التام تجاه ما ندرس من ظواهر.
