إنّ ما لمسناه من تنوّع النصوص السرديّة العمانيّة في فترة مبكّرةٍ من ظهورها، فضلاً عن تراثها الفنيّ والمضمونيّ، يعدّ من أهمّ العوامل التي جعلتنا لا نكتفي بدراسة منظومة السرد التخييليّة، ونعمل على توسيع دائرة الدراسة لتشمل منظومة أدب الذات المرجعيّة أيضاً، إذ لا يكتمل النظر في الخطاب السرديّ الأدبيّ، ولا تتشكل أبعاده الإنشائيّة تشكلاً عاماً إلاّ باجتماع المنظومتين المذكورتين وتظافرهما على تكييف ملامح الخطاب السرديّ الكبرى.
وقد كان بالإمكان أن تقتصر هذه الدراسة على درس نوع أدبيّ وقد كان بالإمكان أن تقتصر هذه الدراسة على درس نوع أدبيّ واحد مثل الرواية أو القصّة القصيرة، ومتابعة مختلف أطواره الفنيّة، ولكنّنا طمحنا إلى تحقيق مغامرة نقديّة شاملة تستقرئ بتأن ما ترسّب إلى يومنا هذا من عديد الدراسات النقديّة الناضجة الّتي تتابع بإستمرار ما يصدر من كتابات سرديّة عمانيّة متنوّعة، التخييليّة منها والذاتيّة المرجعيّة على حدّ سواء، ولكنّ أحاديّة هذه الدراسات وتراكمها اللافت جعلنا نعي اليوم أنّ الأدب العمانيّ بات في حاجة أكيدة إلى إستجلاء ملامحه العامّة ومنعرجاته الفنيّة الكبرى عبر تحقيق دراسة نقديّة جامعة تجمع شتات ما أنجز من أجل رسم الجغرافية العامّة للمنجز الأدبيّ العمانيّ، وطرح إشكاليّاته ورهاناته الكبرى، فضلاً عن مزيد التعريف بنصوصه وأهمّ مبدعيها.
