Book Description
يعدُّ موضوع العلاقات العمانية الأمريكية في المدَّة الممتدة بين عامي 1930- 1958 من الموضوعات التي تستحقُّ الدراسة والبحث، ولا سيَّما أنَّ المكتبة العربية تفتقر إلى هذا النوع من الدراسة.
فقد صدر عدد من الدراسات الأكاديمية والكتب العامَّة والمقالات المنشورة في المجالات المختلفة عن العلاقات العمانية الأمريكية، إلاَّ أنَّ معظم هذه الدراسات اعتنت بالقرن التاسع عشر ولا سيَّما منذ عقد معاهدة عام 1833 بين الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وسلطنة عمان نهاية حكم السيد سعيد عام 1856، دون الإهتمام بالمُدَد اللاحقة ولا سيَّما المدَّة التي حدَّدها الكتاب.
ولأجل تحديد تلك العلاقات ووضعها في إطارها الزمني المرتبط بالأحداث الدولية وأوضاع عمان الداخلية، جاءت هذه الدراسة، محاولة الإجابة عن أسئلة كثيرة تكتنف موضوع نشأة هذه العلاقات وتطورها والتحولات التي طرأت عليها في مدَّة ما بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية حتَّى عام 1958.
إنًّ مدَّة الثلاثينيَّات شهدت أحداثاً مهمَّة تمثَّلت في دخول شركات النفط الأمريكية بشكل مكثَّف في المنطقة ومحاولات السلطان سعيد بن تيمور الإتصال مع هذه الشركات، فضلاً عن المحاولات الأمريكية في إحياء مصالحها في مسقط، وذلك من طريق تجديد معاهدة عام 1833 المعقودة بين السيد سعيد سلطان عمان والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، كذلك تميَّزت هذه المرحلة بنشاط صحي وتعليمي للإرساليات التبشرية الأمريكية في السلطنة.
أمَّا سنة 1958؛ فقد شهدت إجراء مفاوضات بين البلدين لعقد معاهدة صداقة وتجارة تحلُّ محل معاهدة عام 1833.
وتستمدُّ هذه الدراسة أهميُّتها من خصوصية المرحلة التي نغطيها، فهي مرحلة تحول في السياسة الأمريكية، لذا حاولنا إبراز هذه التحولات وأثرها في العلاقات العمانية الأمريكية بدراسة المحاور التالية: علاقات تجارية، علاقات دبلوماسية، نشاط إرساليات، مصالح نفطية، وأخيراً مصالح سياسية وإستراتيجية، والأساليب المتعددة التي يتخذها الموقف البريطاني حيال ذلك.
