ولنلاحظ قبل أن نختم هذه المقدمة الموجزة ان مسرحية روميو وجولييت تحدد تقريبا نشاة الدراما الرومانيكية في الأدب الغربي. فهى معجزة بشبابها وبما تثير من التأثر والمرح وبمهارة صاحبها في بناء المسرحية مع ما يتخللها من مقطوعات مقفاه موزونة تصور الغناء من أبرع صورة ومن نثر قوى مألوف بل مبتذل احيانا. كل هذا الإعجاز يظل بحث أثرا فذا في تاريخ الأدب. فيها تمتزج المأساة والملهاة وفيها الشدة اللين والغلظة والرقة والمرارة والعذوبة. وفيها ثروة متجددة دائما في موضوعها وصورتها وفيها أشخاص بار زون وفيها أنواع مختلفة من السياق وفيها تنوع وتعقد. فهى مسرحية إنجليزية بأدق معنى هذه الكلمة.
