لن ترتقي أمة إلا إذا استضاءت بنور العلم، والعلماء هم ورثة الأنبياء، وما من شيء بعد النبوة أفضل من نشر العلم لكونه سبيل الصلاح و الاصلاح بل هو السلاح الأهم في معركة الوعي، ودلت الأحاديث على فضل تعليم العلم وتعلمه بل والعمل على تذليل طرق تعلمه وتحصيله. حيث كان وما زال العلم هو طريقَ معرفة الله عز وجل وسبيل ثبات الإيمان، وبناء اليقين ومعرفة كيفية إصلاح الدنيا بالدين.
علم الاجتماع هو الدراسة النظامية للمجتمعات. وتختلف هذه المجتمعات فى الحجم من قبيلة صغيرة من قبائل الأمازون إلى المجتمع الغربى برمته. ويدور الحديث اليوم عن المجتمع "العالمى" أو "الكونى" global. ويتألف المجتمع من أفراد ينتسبون إلى جماعات تختلف فى حجمها من الأسرة على سبيل المثال إلى مجمل السكان فى منطقة معينة. ويدرس علم الاجتماع التفاعل بين الذات (أو الفرد) والجماعات، وآذا التفاعل بين الجماعات وبعضها البعض. وتؤثر الذات فى الجماعة (ومن ثم المجتمع)، آما تتأثر بهذه الجماعة. ويبدأ التفاعل بين الذات والآخرين (أو الآخر على الأقل) منذ المѧيلاد، ويظل مستمراً حتى الممات، أو بلغة أخرى، من المهد إلى اللحد؛ باعتبار أن الأفراد جزء من المجتمع.
