كان وعد الله لسيدنا إبراهيم أن يجعل من نسله من إسماعيل وإسحق شعوباً كثيرة، ولما كان العالم -آنذاك- غارقا فى الخطايا وعبادة الأوثان اراد الله أن ينزل دعوته للإيمان والتوحيد. ولتحقيق هذه الرسالة اختار شعبا يكون نواة لنشر الدين ومعرفة الله -وهم بنو إسرائيل. لكن هذا الشعب لم يحفظ العهد فنزلت عليه لعنات كسر العهد.
ووجد الإنسان نفسه عبر العصور يواجه ظواهر خارقة لا يستطيع أن يفسرها. كان نتيجة هذه الغوامض الإيمان بالسحر والخرافات والأساطير.. ثم جاءت الديانات فقدمت لنا العزاء فى ذلك كله.
ولأن بعض أحداث التوراة أحداث خارقة مثل الأساطير، فمع ذكرها جاءت المقارنة بأساطير معاصرة لها فى مصر وبلاد اليونان. ومع تتبع أحداث التاريخ نجد تتابعا للإمبراطوريات من الآشورية للبابلية والفارسية ثم اليونانية والرومانية.. كما نجد -أيضا- دورا مهماً للإمبراطورية الفرعونية.. وتأكل كل إمبراطورية سابقتها عندما تتنامى قوتها. وما حدث فى القرن الماضى من حروب عالمية بدأت داخل أوربا يجعلنا نستطيع القول بأن الصراع.. صراع قوة وليس صراع حضارات.
وفي الكتاب تم الربط بين ما جاء في التورة وأحداث الشرق الأدنى القديم، والربط -أيضا- بين هذه الجذور والأحداث المعاصرة.
