رشدي راشد (1936- )رياضي مصري وفيلسوف ومؤرخ يعيش في فرنسا منذ 1956 ويعمل أستاذًا بجامعة دوني دويدرو وعدد من جامعات العالم.
حقق رشدي راشد كتب علماء العرب الرياضيين وترجم المخطوطات العربية إلى الفرنسية وشرحها تاريخيًا وفلسفيًا ورياضيًا وعلق عليها . كما أعاد إحياء تراث ابن الهيثم والخوارزمي والكِندي وعمر الخيام والسموأل وقدم عنهم حقائق تاريخية لم تكن معروفة من قبل.

لقد أصدر الدكتور رشدي راشد، بالفرنسية، المجلد الأول من دراسته حول أعمال العالِم الرياضي السجزيّ التي تضم مجلّدين. ونحن نقدّم لقرّاء العربية ترجمة المجلد الأول، الذي يتضمّن كلّ ما حُفظ من أعمال السجزيّ عن هندسة المخروطات. وهذه الترجمة هي حلقة في سلسلة تاريخ العلوم عند العرب التي يصدرها، تباعاً، مركز دراسات الوحدة العربية، وهي التي تهدف إلى تعريف القرّاء، والباحثين العرب، بآخر النتائج التي تمّ التوصل إليها في تاريخ العلوم المكتوبة بالعربية.
إن لأعمال السجزيّ أهمية خاصة، فهو رياضي – هندسي، بامتياز؛ إذ إنه ينظر إلى الرياضيات بمجهر العلم الهندسي حصراً. سيدهش القارئ عندما يرى كيف يحلّ السجزيّ المسائل العددية هندسيّاً، وسيُدهش أكثر عندما يجد لدى هذا العالمِ الكبير تصنيفاً للقضايا الرياضية استدعته المسائل المتعلقة بالمفاهيم الرياضية غير المتناهية، وتحديداً بالمقارَب والقطع الزائد. وهذا التصنيف يلامس، ولو من بعيد، مسألة الاكتمال النظري من جهة، ومسألة اللانهاية الرياضية بمعناها الكموني من جهة أخرى.
ويطالعنا في كتاب السجزيّ هذا جموحه إلى استنباط الخصائص المميزّة للأشكال الهندسية، وتحديداً الدائرة. ويتبدّى هذا الأمر أيضاً في سعيه، على خُطى الهندسيين العرب ممّن سبقوه، إلى تطبيق هندسة القطوع المخروطية دون العَوْد إلى مجسم المخروط. كما أنه يتناول، بإسهاب، موضوع الأبنية الهندسية المتعلقة بالبركار المخروطي، وبمسائل تطبيق المخروطيات على مسائل الفلك، كما نجد لديه أوّلَ تعميم لقوة النقطة بالنسبة إلى القطوع المخروطية، ومسائل أخرى
