القصائد هنا، باستثناء "بحر الجليل"، غزل حلو ومرح ويجنح في بعضه إلى إباحية مغرقة، وهي في مضمونها على نقيض تام مع قصائده على مدى لاحق، حيث قصائده هناك غزل مر ومضنٍ. هذه القصائد التي دوّنها توفيق توضح أثر المدرسة الشعرية اللبنانية عليه وفي طليعتها رائد الرومانسية المطعّمة بالرمزية إلياس أبو شبكة، وإن كان هناك نسمات تهب عليها من رياض سعيد عقل ويوسف غصوب ورشدي المعلوف وصلاح لبكي.
