يعتمد المؤلف في دراسته حول التربة (آلية استصلاحها)، والمياه (الري والصرف، المتعلقان به)، على ثلاثة محاور، الأول: تدهور التربة واستصلاحها ويركز فيه على علاقات ملكية الأرض والمبادئ العامة الناظمة لدراسة التربة ومن ثم خصائص الترب القلوية والمالحة والتصنيف الدولي لهذه الخصائص وكيفية استصلاح هذا النوع من الترب. والثاني: نظام التربة والمياه ويبين فيه النظام المائي في التربة والمياه وصلاحية مياه الري لهما ومن ثم التأثيرات السلبية للتملح على التربة والنبات.
وفي المحور الثالث (الري والصرف الزراعي) يشرح طرق وآليات الري، التقليدي منها والحديث وكيفية اختيار الطريقة الأفضل وينتهي إلى تبيان طرق وآليات الصرف، المكشوفة منها والمغطاة. ويختتم الدراسة بملاحق توضح المفاهيم والمصطلحات وكذلك المعادلات الرياضية التي تهم في هذا المجال.
