ركزت هذه الدراسة المكثفة على أهم المحاور الرئيسية وتحديدا منها المياه العذبة، بغية استكمال أوجه الأزمة على المستوى العالمي. وتعد هذه الدراسة استكمالاً للدراسات المائية الجادة في العالم العربي وربما تنفرد بخصوصية كونها تناقش فقط المياه العذبة. هذا وتمحورت نقاط البحث فيها بشكل أساسي حول المياه العذبة في العالم، تلوثها وصيانتها. ثم تأثيرات التلوث البيئي وانعكاساته (ثقب الأوزون، وزيادة نسب ثاني أكسيد الكربون، وتدهور الغطاء النباتي) عليها. وخصص فصلاً كاملاً لدراسة المتغيرات الجيولوجية والمناخية على الكرة الأرضية والنتائج المتوقعة لتلك المتغيرات على المياه العذبة في العالم. كما ولم يغب عن فصول هذا الكتاب مناقشة جملة من القضايا المتعلقة بالتغيرات المناخية المتوقعة وتأثيراتها على الموارد المائية والانعكاسات السلبية للعجز المائي العربي، بالإضافة إلى اقتراح جملة من الحلول والمقترحات التي تساعد على تلافي الآثار السلبية للعجز المائي العربي.
