تختفي المدن وتتلاشى حين يهجرها سكانها، ويوما ما سيقرأ الجميع اسم بغداد في كتب التاريخ فقط إذا استمر حكامها على هذا الحال، وربما ستُنتج الأفلام حول اختفاء المدينة، وسيُكتب عن شعبها المفقود كم كان يحلم أن يعيش بسلام، وسيعترض بعضهم وقتذاك حول وجود مدينة بهذا الاسم حقاً، فلا دليل يشير إلى أن بغداد كانت حقيقة، وستظهر التيارات المعارضة والمُنظرة حول هذا الرأي ويختلف المؤمنون والمشككون بها على حد سواء، وتنبثق نظرية: إن كانت الآثار موجودة حقاً فهذا يعني إثبات وجود المدينة. وسيختلقون تخمينات كثيرة، وسيؤخذ بعضهم بقصص السندباد وعودته إلى بغداد مستدلين بذلك على حقيقة وجودها، وسيبرز من يخالف هذا الرأي ويقول إنها قصص هندية لا شأن لها في إثبات صحة وجود مدينة بهذا الاسم، وفي النهاية سيتفقون على إنها أسطورة كانت تأسر الخيال فيما مضى. وسيكتب بعضهم؛ أن شعبها من ذرية إله مولع بالحروب. لكن هل كتبوا تاريخهم أو كانوا محض خيال. أو أنها اختفت تدريجيا مثلما اختفت المدن من قبلها على مرور التاريخ، أم سيقولون أنها اختفت بسبب ظاهرة طبيعية. لا أحد يعلم ما سيحصل وقتذاك إلا صاحب غرفة التحكم المركزية ونحن ممنوعون من تبيان أحداث التاريخ للبشر.
