"من أجواء الرواية:
كثيرون مرّوا في حياة سلوى في تلك الحارة الجديدة التي انتقلت إليها، وكان الحاج بركات هو الآخر من حيث لا يقصد طرفاً في ترميم جانب من روحها المهدمة. عندما سألها ذات يوم وهي تعيد إليه الكوفية التي خلعها عن رأسه وناولها إياها لتستر بها نفسها، إن كان باستطاعته أن يفعل أي شيء لأجلها، قالت له وهي تناوله الكوفية بعد أن طوتها بعناية، يوماً ما سأرحل عن هذه الحارة، قلبي يحدثني بهذا، قد يطول مكوثي هنا أو يقصر، المهم أنني راحلة لا محالة، لو بلغك يوماً أنني تركت الحارة وانقطعت أخباري، أريد منك بعد ذلك بفترة قصيرة، أن توصل هذه الورقة لبيت رجل اسمه الشيخ العارف. وأعطته العنوان. "
