في "يوم خذلتني الفراشات" يضعنا الروائي "زياد أحمد محافظة" أمام لوحة فيسفسائية متناثرة للأدب في خطوطها العريضة والمتعرجة المتنوعة، حتى يغدو الأدب وجهاً للسياسة والسياسة وجهاً للأدب.
وفي هذا العمل يحيل الكاتب ببراعة مفردة السياسة من الضبابية إلى تعد إشراقات النص، في نقد ثقافة الصمت وحرمات الشعوب وحقها في التعبير عن الرأي.
"تقتَفي الرواية التي تتخذ الأدب السياسي سبيلاً لها، سيرة رجل أوجعته الحياة في ماضيه، رواغته ولدغته حتى فقد يقينه في كل شيء، لكن حين مد له القدر يداً لانتشاله، تشبت بدهاء ومضى يصفي حسابات مريرة مع كل شيء حوله. ويمكن القول إنها رواية تعري عالم السياسة وإخفاقها، وتنبش أسرارها، لتميط اللثام عن غواية السلطة حين ينضج شيطانها ليسحق أي شيء يقف في طريقه (...)" .
عبَر صفحات الرواية يتناول الراوي مقاطع نقدية للواقع السياسي العربي في ظل خطوطه السياسية الحالية، لتأتي صورة تطبيقية واقعية في خطوط رؤاها النقدية مع الأدب وفي ظل أجناسه المفتوحة في لغة السرد، وهو يشكل الأنا الناطقة، وظلال كتب الحريات يقول "... الوطن لا يكبر أو يتضاءل في نفوس أبنائه إلا حين يضعونه في مواجهة المنفى. كل الأماكن يمكن أن ترحل تجاه المنفى إلا الوطن... خلق ليبقى وطناً(...)".
"يوم خذلتني الفراشات" عمل روائي جاد وملتزم، ورؤية واقعية في ظل واقع مدلهم مكفهر أحادي صارم.
