يحفل تاريخ الإسلام بأحاديث اشتهت على ألسنة العوام وكثير من الفقهاء الذين لا معرفة لهم بالحديث، وهي إما أن يكون لها أصل يتعذر الوقوف عليه لغرابة موضعه، أو لذكره في غير مظنته، وربما نفاه بعضهم لعدم إطلاعه عليه، والنافي له كمن نفى أصلا من الدين، من هنا وجبت العناية بما وصل من العلم الصحيح في أحاديث رسول الله (ص) وبيان الصحيح من المعتل. وكتاب "كشف الخفاء ومزيل الإلباس عما اشتهر من الأحاديث على ألسنة الناس" من أهم التصانيف الشاملة على بيان الحديث من غيره وتمييز المقبول منه السالم من ضيره. ولأهميته اعتنى به المفسر المحدث: إسماعيل بن محمد العجلوني الجراحي وعمل على بيان درجة ما ورد فيه من أحاديث – المخطوط الأصلي- من حيث الصحة أو الحسن أو الضعف، بناء على قول من قال الحديث، من الأئمة والحفاظ، من المتقدمين والمتأخرين، مشيرا إلى مؤلفاتهم، وأسمائهم، باختصار. أما مجال البحث والجدل في هذا العمل، فلم يكن أحاديث الشيخين وغيرها، لأنها صحيحة بالإجماع، ولكن مجال البحث والحوار يدور في الأحاديث الواهية والضعيفة جدا وبيان درجة كل حديث، ليكون القارىء المسلم على سعة وإطلاع في تمييز الأحاديث ...
يضم الكتاب بجزئيه الأول والثاني (3281) حديث وأورد المحقق تحت كل منها بعد شرحه كلمة (صحيح) أو (حسن) أو (ضعيف جدا) أو (لا أصل له) ، أو (موضوع) ومن الذي رواه من الأئمة والفقهاء. ومن هذه الأحاديث نذكر: "شر الأمور محدثاتها"، "شر البقاع الأسواق"، "شر الحياة لا الممات"، "لكل شيء آفة، وللعلم آفات" ... إلى آخر ذلك من أحاديث فاقت الثلاثة آلاف حديث ...
