نشأ بزازا، في أذنه صمم. وتفقه وروى الحديث، واشتهر بالورع وتعبير الرؤيا.
واستكتبه أنس بن مالك، بفارس. وكان أبوه مولى لأنس.
ينسب له كتاب (تعبير الرؤيا - ط) ذكره ابن النديم، وهو غير (منتخب الكلام في تفسير الأحلام) المطبوع، المنسوب إليه أيضا، وليس له .

تطورت أسباب المعيشة في الحياة بشكل غير جميع المفاهيم السابقة وشمل جميع المرافق والميادين لم تعد المقاييس القديمة تنطبق بشكل من الأشكال على تطلعات الحياة العصرية ومتطلباتها ولذا كان على كل علم وفن أن يخضع لدراسة تعيد النظر فيه من أساسه لتقييمه ومقارنته وصياغته بشكل ينطبق مع واقع الحياة المعاصرة.
