السيد كاظم حسين الرشتي هو السيد محمد كاظم بن السيد قاسم الحسيني أباً، الموسوي أماً، الرشتي مولداً والكربلائي مسكناً ومدفناً. له مصنفات عجيبة منها مطالع الأنوار وشرح آية الكرسي، واللوامع الحسينية وهو في الحكمة الإلهية وهذه الرسالة التي أجاب بها أحد محبيه عن بعض أسئلة وجهها إليه، وهي في مسائل عديدة كأدلة التوحيد ومراتبه وأركانه ومعنى الصفات الذاتية والفعلية ومعنى ظهور آيات الله في أئمة الهدى، وتفسير بعض الرموز الحرفية، ومعنى الحروف المقطعة في أوائل القرآن الكريم ومعنى الجبر والتفويض والأقربين الأمرين وغيرها من الأمور العريضة الجلية صعبة المنال.
وقد عمد محقق الكتاب إلى مطابقة النسخة الأصلية بنسختين مخطوطتين. فأثبت الكلمات الزائدة والناقصة والمحذوفة في هامش الكتاب. كما أرجع الآيات والروايات التي اقتبسها المؤلف إلى مصادرها الصحيحة قدر الإمكان مع ضبطها وإكمالها في الهامش. وبما أن الرسالة أغلب أسئلتها تتحدث عن حكمة أهل البيت عليهم السلامك، فقد سماها المحقق (بدائع الحكمة).
