كان للمؤلفين القدماء من أئمة اللغة العربية الفضل الكبير على اللغة، لما قاموا به من الأعمال الجليلة بجمع أساليب العرب في الكلام، وآدابهم وأشعارهم وأمثالهم، مدونين كل ذلك في كتب ورسائل لا تحصى. ومن بين هؤلاء الخليل بن أحمد الذي يعد رائد المعجمعات العربية، والذي ابتكر نظاماً خاصاً سار عليه أكثر اللغويين، منهم من قلده، ومنهم من حاول التعديل في نظامه.
لكن أثره بقي واضحاً على مر العصور حتى أيامنا هذه، فهو صاحب مدرسة، ومبتكر النظام الصوتي الذي اعتمده في كتابه. ولم تكن المحاولات المعجمية التي قامت من بعده سوى عملية تيسير المعجم العربي، لأن جميع المؤلفين كانوا يرجعون إليه. لذلك عمدت إلى دراسة معجم "العين" بدقة وتفصيل لأجعله مرجعاً للطلاب الذين يدرسون القضايا المعجمية، ويقومون بأبحاث ودراسات لغوية.
بدأت بالتركيز على المرحلة الأولى التي مر بها وضع المعجم العربي، وهي مرحلة التقليب، وجعلت دراستي في فصلين: الفصل الأول: يحتوي على عناية كاملة بمعجم "العين"، ودراسة الآراء حول نسبته مع إبراز النظام الصوتي ونظام التقليبات الخليليين. 67162 ونظراً لصعوبة البحث في "العين" فقد عمد إلى شرح طريقة الكشف عن الألفاظ معتمدة على تبسيط قاعدة التقليبات من حيث استخراج مقلوبات الكلمة. والفصل الثاني يشمل أثر معجم "العين" على اللغويين في المشرق والمغرب. أما معاجم المشرق فأهمها: الجمهرة لابن دريد، وتهذيب اللغة للأزهري. وأما معاجم المغرب فأهمها: البارع لأبي علي القالي، والمحكم لابن سيده، واعتمد أسلوب المقارنة وأبرزت التشابه الكامل بين أسلوب هؤلاء اللغويين وأسلوب الخليل.
