جاك أونري برناردين دي سان بيير (بالفرنسية: Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre) ولد في (19 يناير 1737 بلو هافر و توفي عام 21 يناير 1814بأراغني فال دواز).
كان روائي فرنسي ومتخصص في علم النبات.
أشهر ماعرف به روايته بول وفرجيني Paul et Virginie (أو الفضيلة، والتي قام بتعريبها الأديب الكبير مصطفى لطفي المنفلوطي) التي نشرت للمرة الأولى عام 1787.
في عام 1795 تم انتخابه عضوا في معهد فرنسا ،حاز على جائزة تقدير من اكاديمة يبزانسون وفي عام 1803 انتخب ليكون عضوا بالأكاديمية اللغة الفرنسية.
في سنة 1852 احتفلت حكومة الجمهورية الفرنسية بإقامة تمثال له من البرورنز في إحدى ميادين ثغر لو هافر، تصوره ممسكًا بإحدى يديه قرطاسًا وبالأخرى قلمًا وعند قدميه صبي وصبية عاريان يتصافحان تحت ظل شجرة من أشجار المناطق الحارة.

هذه رواية خالدة من روائع الأدب العالمي, عند صدور هذه الرواية في فرنسا في القرن الثامن عشر لم يبقى إنسان في فرنسا قرئها ولم يتأثر بها وكاد أن يصبح كل مولود شاب يسمى بول وكل مولود فتاة تسمى فرجيني. وهذه الأيام وكعهد أي عمل إبداعي خالد يكاد لا يوجد أحد يقرأ هذه الرواية إلا ويتأثر بها تأثيراً كبيراً.
تدور أحداث هذه الرواية في احدى الجزر النائية التي عاش بها أسرة أوربية في وسط فقر مدقع ومع ذلك فقد تمتعت بالسعادة وعرف أشخاصها العواطف الصادقة النبيلة.
وتحتوي الرواية التي بين يدينا على الفصول التالية: جزيرة موريس, الحياة الطبيعية, حياة الطفولة, العزاء, الاستعمار الأوربي, السعادة, العمل, التاريخ, مخدع فرجيني, ليالي الشتاء, آدم وحواء, الرسالة, الوداع, السفر, أوربا, الطبيعة, الحديث, السفينة, العاصفة, الكارثة, أحزان بول, الموت, الإيمان.
