السيد علي الأمين واسمه علي بن محمد بن علي تقي بن محمد الأمين هو عالم دين شيعي، مجتهد ومرجع ديني لبناني ولد في بلدة قلاوية العاملية سنة 1952 م، مدّرس لمادة أصول الفقه وبحث الخارج وداعية تعايش بين الطوائف اللبنانية ومقرّب بين أتباع الدّيانات.
هاجر إلى النجف في العراق وذلك في ستينات القرن العشرين.
وبلغ مرحلة الاجتهاد الشرعي في سن مبكرة بعد أن تلقى علومه الشرعية على يد علماء الحوزة العلمية في النجف ومنهم: آية الله الخوئي آية الله محمد باقر الصدر آية الله نصر الله المستنبط آية الله الروحاني درّس مادة أصول الفقه وبحث الخارج في حوزات النجف وقم ولبنان ودرس عنده المئات من طلاب العلوم الدينية من مختلف أنحاء الدّول الإسلامية والعربية.

تحت عنوان (السُنّة والشِّيعة أمة واحدة.. إسلام واحد واجتهادات متعددة) صدرت عن الدار العربية للعلوم ناشرون – دراسة فقهية وكلامية في مسألة الخلافة والإمامة تسقط أسباب الخلاف وتثبت حق الاختلاف للعلامة السيد "علي الأمين" ينطلق فيها من مبدأ أساسي وهو أن الإسلام عقيدة وشريعة من آمن بهما صار مسلماً.
تأتي أهمية ما يطرحه العلامة الأمين – وخصوصاً في الوقت الراهن – من كونه من بين مفكرين إسلاميين قلائل يبحثون عن الحق، ويسعون للتضامن والوحدة بين أبناء الأمة، فهو يدعو لعرض الموروث العقدي والفقهي على كتاب الله وسنة رسوله القطعية، مع تجديد قراءة المذاهب الإسلامية، ويدعو لإعادة النظر في منهج الرفض والقبول، مع إيمانه التام بأنه لا يمكن للمسلمين أن يأسسوا لعقيدة دينية دون الرجوع للكتاب والسنة الصحيح.
عن اختلاف المناهج يقول الأمين "عندما تكون الشريعة التي يجب التقيد بأحكامها واحدة ومع ذلك يقع الاختلاف، في النتائج التي يتم التوصل إليها من قبل الفقهاء والمجتهدين، فإن هذا الاختلاف يعني اختلافاً في المنهج المعتمد لتحديد وسائل الإثبات وسبل الوصول إلى الأحكام واختلافاً في طرق الاستدلال وليس اختلافاً في الأهداف الواحدة التي يسعى الجميع للوصول إليها وهي أحكام الله تعالى التي استودعها الله القرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية الشريفة وليس من طلب الحق فأخطأه كمن طلب الباطل فأصابه على حدّ تعبير الإمام علي عليه السلام فكلّ من بذل وسعه من أجل الوصول إلى الحكم الشرعي الواقعي كان معذوراً على تقدير الخطأ، مأجوراً على تقدير الصواب، بل هو بمعنى من المعاني مأجور على كلا التقديرين ومثاب في كلا الحالين…".
هذا الكتاب دعوة صادقة تروم إلى التمسك بمبادئ الإسلام وقيمه بعيداً عن التجربة التي مرت فيما بعد، وبعيداً عن الانقسامات التي حصلت بعدها؛ من هنا جاءت هذه الدراسة لتبحث بشكل علمي وصريح في المسائل الخلافية الأساسية بين المسلمين، واعتمدت في ذلك على الحجة والدليل الذي يبطل دعوات الفرقة والانقسام، والذي يهدم الأسس التي قامت عليها فتاوى بعض العلماء في تكفير المسلمين بعضهم للبعض الآخر، معتمدة على النصوص الدينية والوقائع التاريخية ودروس العلماء وهذا ما يؤكد صدقيتها…
