آخر اللحظات كنا وحيدين يخبرني عن ماضيه، وأخبره عن حاضري. صوت خافت، جسد يابس، عينان غارقتان، صافيتان، وجه براءة، ومع هذا كله، كانت الغبطة لا تفارقه وبين يديها سكينة تشبه القداسة. جلسنا، معاً، أمام الباب، على مقعد بيني وبينه ألفة. قال إن صهره جورج آدمي، وان الدنيا تساوي قشرة بصلة، وإن العمر غفلة. لم يحدثني هذا الريفي، الفطري، النقي إلا عن الأرض وكرومها، والإحراج انتظرت أن يشعر بالتعب، كالعادة، وطلب مني أن أرافقه إلى سريره حيث أشواك الألم.
وبدلاً من ذلك رأيته يرغب في الكلام وتختفي الكلمات في حنجرته، ويرغب في الحركة، وتغيب الحركة عن قدرته، ورأيته يتمايل يميناً وشمالاً، فذهلت، وقلت: (لماذا أرى ما أرى)؟ وفجأة، أغمض عينيه، وتلاشى الجسد على يديّ وجسدي. ساعدته كي يستلقي على مقعده الجيب، وأسرعت إلى الهاتف، فحضر الأهل، وبقي شهراً تحت الآلات، جسداً باهتاً، وروحاً مسافراً، حتى همست إحداهن هناك، "خذوه... انتهى زيته فأخذناه... ودعناه" "رحلة الوروار" قصة والد عرف الأرض وعرفته، فكانت بينهما علاقة ود لا حيرة فيها، بل صلابة هي طمأنينة المكتفي بعطاء الله، حتى تبقى للرغيف كرامته، لكن الأرض التي تحرص على أبنائها، تأبى إلا أن تحتضنهم، بعد أن يكون العمر قد تولى، تاركاً بعضاً من أشعة غروبه على أجنحة العصافير.
