إن تاريخ هذه الحقبة المثيرة للمنطقة سيكتب لاحقاً، وسيثبت بطبيعة الحال، إذا ما كانت هذه النبؤة صحيحة أم لا، كما أنه سيوضح أي مسار اتخذته دولها ومجتمعاتها وشعوبها، وهل أنها رست أخيراً على مستقر لها، أم أنها ستبقى سائرة في مدارات القلق والحيرة والاضطراب. غير أن أية قراءة للوضع الراهن الذي خلفه الغزو الأمريكي للعراق يشير إلى أن المنطقة قد دخلت فعلاً نفقاً مظلماً متمثل بأزمات وصراعات حروب خلقت بالتالي مشهداً سوريالياً، لا مثيل له، من حالة عدم اليقين والتوتر والارتباك، ممزوجة بحالة من الهشاشة وإنعدام الاستقرار والفوضى. ولم يكن مستغرباً أن يطلق منظرو ومهندسو هذه الحقبة من الإمريكان على ما جرى خلالها بالفوضى الخلاقة، ذلك ان الهدف مما خططوا له كان تغير شكل المنطقة، ووضع مسار جديد لمستقبلها، وبالتأكيد بما يتلائم مع الغايات والمصالح التي وضعوها لأمريكا في عالم القرن الحادي والعشرين. إن كل المؤشرات والأحداث التي جرت خلال الفترة القصيرة التي تبعت الحرب تدل على أنهم نجحوا في ذلك، وأنه حين يؤرخ لهذه المرحلة من عمر المنطقة فإنها بالتأكيد ستسمى فترة ما بعد الحرب الأمريكية على العراق، وهي فترة ستكون أبرز سماتها الخاصة أنها انتقالية وسائلة ومؤسسة لمرحلة أخرى، ستصل إليها المنطقة، ولكن عبر مخاض عسير وطويل.
