يبحث هذا الكتاب في الجانب التاريخي لمنطقة جازان في العصر الإسلامي الوسيط، مؤلف الكتاب الدكتور فيصل بن علي الطميحي/ عضو الجمعية السعودية للمحافظة على التراث والذي قام بتحقيق موضعين في منطقة جازان، الموضع الأول هو ما يسمى المِخْلاف السليماني، الذي يُزعم أنه الاسم القديم الذي كان يطلق على كامل منطقة جازان بحدودها الجغرافية الحالية، أما الموضع الآخر فهو العُرْش، الذي يُزعم أيضاً أنه الاسم القديم لمدينة أبي عريش، إحدى الحواضر التي تقع في منطقة جازان، وقد تمكن المؤلف، من الوقوف على نصوص تاريخية وجغرافية فريدة للغاية، ساعدته بشكل كبير على تحقيق الموضعين، فالمِخْلاف السليماني لم يكن الاسم القديم لكامل المنطقة، بل كان جزءاً منها، لقد تمكن المؤلف أيضاً من التعرف وبشكل واضح على بدء شيوع ذلك الزعم المتمثل في إطلاق اسم المِخْلاف السليماني على كامل منطقة جازان. أما العُرْش، فقد وقف فيه المؤلف على ماورد في نص جغرافي فريد لياقوت الحموي أورده في كتابه "معجم البلدان"...
