لم أفزع كثيرا عندما أبلغني الأطباء بأنني قد أصبت بالسرطان.. فشبح الموت لم يعد يفزعني بعد أن واجهته عدة مرات دون أن يتمكن مني. فقد واجهته في عام 1962 عندما هبطت بي وبإعلاميين آخرين معي، طائرة يمنية هي طائرة الإمام البدر، بعيداً عن الممرات المعتادة لهبوط الطائرات. ولكونها قد هبطت مع الريح وليس عكسه كما يفترض، فقد تجاوزت الأرض المنبسطة التي هبطت عليها، وتسلقت تلة صخرية بعدها، مصطدمة بالصخور دون أن تنفجر، أو أصاب أو يصاب الآخرون إلا برضوض محدودة. وفي عام 1974 خلال الحرب التركية القبرصية، بتّ رهينة في فندق ليدرا بالاس الحدودي بنيقوسيا الذي أقمت فيه مع إعلاميين آخرين، حيث كان الأتراك يهددون بقصف الفندق طالبين منا مغادرته، في وقت قام فيه أعضاء الميليشيا اليونانية القبرصية بإغلاق أبواب الفندق، مهددين بقتل كل من يحاول مغادرته، وهكذا بتنا رهائن تهدد بقتلنا قوتان متحاربتان. ولكننا نجونا نتيجة مفاوضات طويلة أجرتها الأمم المتحدة مع الطرفين المتحاربين. وفي عام 1976، دفعني أفراد من ميليشيا سنية نحو الحائط، مقررين تنفيذ حكم الإعدام في، لكون هويتي قد كشفت لهم بأني مسيحي، في وقت كان القتل فيه جارياً على الهوية في طول الأراضي اللبنانية وعرضها. ولم ينقذني يومها من الموت المحقق إلا أعجوبة. وفي عام 1993، قصف الرئيس بوش الأب بغداد بـ 48 صاروخ توماهوك، أصاب أحدها فندق الرشيد حيث تواجدتُ، فقتل ثلاثة وجرح ستة عشر. ومع أنني كنت على بعد 48 متراً فقط من موقع انفجار الصاروخ ، فإنه لم يصبني إلا ببعض رذاذ الزجاج المتكسر، وببعض قطع الحصى الصغيرة التي حط الكثير منها على رأسي وكتفي دون أن يصيبني أي منها بمقتل أو بجراح حقيقية. وفي الأعوام 1970 تدهورت بي السيارة على طريق دمشق عمان، وانقلبت بي عدة قلبات، ومع ذلك نجوت من الحادث بأعجوبة. وفي عام 1972 تعرضت لحادث اصطدام مباشر وقوي جدا مع سيارة أخرى على طريق لاهور إسلام أباد في باكستان، ولحادث مشابه بل أشد قوة وخطورة، في بغداد في عام 1994، ومع ذلك نجوت أيضا من هذين الحادثين. معلومات كثيرة في هذا الكتاب: فلسطينية وعربية ودولية، قد تذهلك وتستدرجك لمتابعته من صفحاته الأولى الى آخر صفحة فيه.
