بعد ثلاثين عاماً على ملحمة الصمود، وأسطورة التصدي في تل الزعتر، رأى "حسين فارس" أنه لمن واجبه إعادة تسجيل الوقائع الميدانية، التي أدت إلى هذا الصمود الأسطوري وبين إن إرادة القتال إذا وجدت يمكن أن تتغلب على آلة الحرب المتطورة. ولعل ما حصل في جنوبي لبنان في أيار من العام 2000م برهنت بلا شك ولا ريب بأن الحرب الشعبية يمكن أن تنتصر ويمكن للعين أن تقاوم المخرز!
ومن ثم جاءت انتفاضة الأقصى في فلسطين وما تبعها من ملحمة جنين البطولية وحرب إسرائيل على لبنان في تموز من العام 2006م وانتصار حزب الله فيها على الجيش الصهيوني الذي كان يوصف بأنه الجيش الذي لا يقهر، لتؤكد من صحة رهاننا على الحرب الشعبية حيث استطاع مجاهدو المقاومة الإسلامية في لبنان بقيادة السيد حسن نصر الله الأمين العام لحزب الله تلقين العدو درساً لن ينساه أبداً ولتغير من المسار الاستراتيجي في الصراع مع الإمبريالية الأمريكية وحفيدتها إسرائيل ولثبت بأن الشعوب المقهورة يمكن لها أن تنتصر.
وما دفعه إلى تأليف هذا الكتاب سوى إرادة الوفاء لهذا التل الذي قدم للعالم أجمع دراساً في التضحية والصمود والحرب الشعبية فبالرغم من مرور ثلاثين عاماً على هذه الملحمة لا يزال أبناء تل الزعتر المنتشرون في مخيمات ومناطق لبنان وفي بلاد المهجر يتغنون بانتمائهم لهذا التل ويروون روايات وحكايات عن البطولة التي تجلت في أبناء التل من مقاتلين وأهالي ليصنعوا معاً أسطورة قلما شهدها التاريخ المعاصر.
