يُعدّ البعض كتاب "ابن خلدون" "شفاء السائل" مؤلَّفاً صوفياً من الدرجة الأولى، فإنك تجده لا يحيد في هذا الكتاب عن المقرّرات والمعتقدات والثوابت التي يجمع عليها المتصوّفة في المشرق كما في المغرب.
ولنا ها أن نتساءل عن مدى تأثير نزعة الإنفتاح على التصوّف هذه عند "ابن خلدون" وعلى صناعة العقل والمنطق لديه، والعقلانية الصارمة المطلوبة حُكماً في التأسيس لمشروعه الجبّار: علم الإجتماع التاريخي وعلم الإجتماع البشري، وصلة ذلك بتعامله مع الفلسفة بوصفها أرقى أشكال تلك الصناعة وأداة الفكر العقلاني البرهاني الأبرز؟...
في القسم الأول من هذا العمل، يتناول المؤلِّف الفكر الصوفي في كتابات "ابن خلدون" للإبانة عن إبتعاد موقفه عن "ابن رشد" (المتفلسف) وتقاطعه مع الغزالي (المتصوّف)، وتنبيهه إلى عجز العقل وقصور اللغة الإنسانية عن التعبير عن التجربة الصوفانية/ العرفانية.
لكن المؤلِّف لم يجد بُداً من البحث أيضاً عن الفكر الصوفي الفلسفي في القسم الثاني من كتابه، وعن مدى الإتصال والتفرقة ما بين الفلسفة والتصوّف، وبالتالي ما بين العلوم النظرية "العقلية" والعلوم العملية "القلبية".
ومن هنا، يُمكن إعتبار هذا الكتاب بمثابة مقدمة لكل حوار ممكن بين الفلسفة والتصوّف، أي بين الحكمة العقلية والحكمة العرفانية، عبر الممرّ الخلدوني.
