يعد التقويم أحد المداخل الأساسية لإصلاح التعليم، ففي ضوء نتائجه يمن الحكم على مدى فاعلية المؤسسة التربوية انطلاقا من أداء المتعملمين في جميع جوانب العملية التعليمية.
ومن ثم يجب أن تتعدد أساليب التقويم وتطويرها حتى تلائم جميع جوانب التعليم وتغطي الأنشطة التعليمية كافة، فصلاً عن ممارسة وقياس المهارات والعمليات المعرفية العليا حتى تعصي صورة واضحة وصادقة عن النظام التربوي وكل عنصر من عناصره، لذلك استهدف البحث: تطوير أساليب تقويم الطلاب بالتعليم الثانوي الصناعي مع وضع تصور مقترح لتطوير وتحسين هذه الأساليب.
وقد أشتمل البحث على ستة فصول: الفصل الأول: تناول الإطار العام للبحث موضحاً مشكلة البحث وتساؤلاته، وأهميته، والهدف منه، والمنهج المستخدم، وحدوده، والمصطلحات المرتبطة به وخطة السير فيه، الفصل الثاني: تناول الدراسات السابقة، ثم تعقيب على هذه الدراسات مع بيان أوجه الشبه والاختلاف بينها وبين البحث الراهن، الفصل الثالث: تناول الإطار النظري للبحث، الفصل الرابع: تناول تحليل المحتوى، الفصل الخامس: تناول إجراءات الدراسة الميداينة، الفصل السادس: تناول نتائج البحث وتفسيرها، الفصل السابع: تناول التصور المقترح لتطوير أساليب تقويم طلاب التعليم الثانوي الفني الصناعي في ضوء دراسة الواقع (النظري والعملي).
