بعيدًا عن الخطاب النمطي المعتاد، يتناول كتاب فِصام الأديان عدّة مواضيع شائكة لعلَّ أبرزها، "الأرهاب والتطرف الديني" في الفصل الأول والذي اختزل أسبابها إلى الكراهية والتراث الدموي والعنصرية في الأديان وأزمة الهوية وأخيراً الإسلام السياسي، ثم تحدّث في فصله الثاني عن "الأخلاق بين التشريع الإلهي والإنساني" مبيّنا مصدريّة الأخلاق وفطريّتها ومن ثم تطوّرها، في الفصل الثالث تحدّث الكتاب عن "شيزوفرينيا الأديان" مفصّلاً الأمراض النفسية التي يعاني منها المؤمنون المتطرفون، في الفصل الرابع تحدّث المؤلف عن "الدوغمائية وثقافة الأحاد" التي اختزل اسبابها في المركزية الذكورية وأعداء الفكر والنقد وأخيراً بالجهل وعقدة الاضطهاد، ثم في فصله الأخير تحدّث الكتاب عن "الالحاد والمقدّس" مبيّناً الأسباب التي حدت ببعض المؤمنين إلى الالحاد ثم شرح الكيفية التي يجب أن يتعامل معها المؤمنون مع فئة الملحدين وأخيراً ذكر الكتاب في بابه الأخير ملامحاً من التسامح بين المسلمين والمشركين في فترة النبي محمّد.
