تدور أحداث الرواية حول طفل يجد جدته التي يحبها كثيرًا، ميتة فيما كان يحاول إيقاظها صباحًا، ويدخل في حالة اكتئاب تعزله عن المجتمع، ويتعرض خلال مسار حياته إلى مجموعة من المواقف والأحداث، مثل تعرضه للاستغلال الجنسي من قبل عاملة منزلية كانت تعمل لدى أسرته، ووقوعه في الحب، وتنافسه على محبوبته مع ابن عمه، بالإضافة إلى تشكل نوازع البطل الثقافية والأدبية وتعرفه على صديق في الجامعة، يدعوه إلى سهرات يفككان المعاني من خلالها أثناء حوارتهما. فتتسلسل الأحداث شيئًا فشيئًا حتى تتسرب معلومة إلى عزيز بأن حبيبته سوف تتزوج من عدوه اللدود (ابن عمه). فتغشى الغيرة بصره وبصيرته، ويذهب إلى غرفة حبيبته وهو في أشد حالات الغضب، محاولًا اغتصابها بطريقة همجية بدائية تراكمت أصلًا في داخله من أوجاع سابقة، وخبرات سرية موجعة، حادة، شاذة، مقرفة.
