Book Description
نشر هذا الكتاب للمرة الأولى سنة 1957 كمحاولة لتوحيد مبادئ العناية لجرحى الحرب من قبل قيادة حلف شمال الأطلسي، الناتو، وأعيد طبعه بتعديلات بسيطة عامي 1958و 1959. وبنتيجة الخبرة التي اكتسبتها الخدمات الطبية للجيش الأميركي في حرب فيتنام وخصوصاً في حقل علاج الجروح، أعيدت كتابته النصر وجرى تغيير في ترتيب ومحتويات عدد من الفصول سنة 1975، وأدخلت عليه التعديلات الضرورية ليتماشى مع التقدم العام في الطب والجراحة.
وقد استعمل الكتاب بأصله الإنكليزي في عدد محدود من المراكز العربية خلال الحروب العربية-الإسرائيلية وفي بعض مراكز الطوارئ في الحرب اللبنانية. وكان لتقييم الأطباء العرب لفائدة الكتاب في معالجة الحالات الطارئة الحافز الأول في قرار ترجمته ونشره في العربية. فقد وجده هؤلاء كبير الفائدة، سهل الاستعمال ومرجعاً سريعاً وافياً لاحتياجاتهم عند العمل تحت ظروف معالجة الحوادث الطارئة. ونظراً لعدم وجود اتفاق عربي شامل على المصطلحات الطبية، ولأن عدداً كبيراً من الأطباء العرب تلقى تدريبه باللغات الأجنبية، فقد ارتأى المترجمون إضافة قاموس بالمصطلحات (إنكليزي-عربي)، مبوب حسب الأبجدية الإنكليزية، هذا بالإضافة إلى الفهارس العربية.
