ومع ذلك بقي الرقص الشرقيّ هامشياً في الكتابة العربية، لم يتحوّل إلى علامة "وطنيّة" أو "قوميّة"، في المقابل اختار بعض البلدان الرقص ليكون واجهة حضارتها، وغدت أسماء بعض الرقصات الشهيرة، هويّات بارزة وعلامات فارقة لبعض الدول...
يؤرخ هذا الكتاب للرقص الشرقيّ لكنه يدافع عنه ويبيّن جوانب من ظاهرته وعلاقة الشعراء والكتّاب بالرقصات والرقص، سواء من خلال الحب أو الكتابة.
محاولة هذا الكتاب قد تبدو صعبة وأهمّيتها أنها مغايرة ومسلّية في آن معاً، ويرصد الكتاب سِيَر عدد من الراقصات والنجمات (تحية كاريوكا، سامية جمال، سعاد حسني، بديعة مصابني، سهير زكي)... وعلاقتهن بالشعراء والكتّاب والروائيين والسياسيين، إلى جانب بعض المقالات عن توظيف الرقص الشرقيّ في رقصات عالمية وتجلّت بين الجاسوسة ماتا هاري ومغنّية البوب شاكيرا.
