تعد مملكة شمال الواقعة في أقصى شمال غربي سورية على السفوح الشرقية لجبال الأمانوس، من أهم الممالك الآرامية التي كانت في النصف الأول من الألف الأول قبل الميلاد.
وقد توالى على حكمها عدد من الملوك الآراميين الذين خلفوا لنا كتابات تشهد على أعمالهم وإنجازاتهم، وقد شهدت هذه المملكة نهضة إقتصادية وعمرانية، وإستقراراً إجتماعياً نجم عن تحقيق العدالة بين طبقات المجتمع المختلفة.
واشتهرت شمال كغيرها من الممالك المجاورة لها بعبادة كثير من الآلهة، وسادت فيها طقوس عبادة الأسلاف، وتقديم الولائم الجنائزية للملوك المتوفَّين.
ولعل أهم ما يميز هذه المملكة أنها أَلِفَت مزيجاً من الثقافات الآرامية والفينيقية والآشورية واللوفية، تجلّت آثاره في عدة مجالات، منها اللغة والمعبودات الإلهية والفنون بشقّيها العمارة والنحت.
