في دراسته هذه يتصدى الدكتور "فارس كمال نظمي" لمعالجة إشكالية إجتماعية متنامية في بلاده، بهدف الإجابة عن هذا السؤال: ما الأنساق الإرتباطية التي تتضمنها العلاقة التفاعلية المتبادلة بين الحرمان النسبي بوصفه مفهوما متعدد الأبعاد، والهوية الإجتماعية ببعدها الوطني؟ وما السلوكيات أو التوجهات الإحتجاجية التي يمكن التنبؤ بها - إرتباطيا - من تفاعل الحرمان النسبي بالهوية الإجتماعية، ضمن إطار ديموغرافي معين وبخلقية سوسيولوجية ممثلة بظاهرة البطالة في العراق؟
ولمعالجة هذه المشكلة إجرائياً استخدم الكاتب عدة أدوات للقياس (السلوك) على عينة مؤلفة من (48) عاطلا عن العمل من الجنسين، في مدينة بغداد، فاتضح أن هؤلاء العاطلين يعانون من الحرمان، وتصدع الهوية الوطنية، ولديهم توجهات قوية نحو الإحتجاج العنيف. وقد نبهت هذه الدراسة الإستكشافية المحدودة الكاتب إلى وجود مؤشرات أولية جدية على أن تفاعل انفعالات الحرمان الناجم عن البطالة والفقر، ومشاعر الإغتراب والعدمية الناجمة عن تأزمات الهوية الوطنية (بوصفها وجهاً من أوجه الهوية الإجتماعية)، قد يمهد الطريق إلى أنماط من إحتجاجات جمعية ذات طابع عنفي، من هنا جاءت هذه الدراسة لتتصدى لهذه الإشكالية معرفيا ودراستها نظرياً وميدانياً وتقديم توصيف (تفسيري - تنبؤي) لمسارات الفعل الإجتماعي الجمعي الناجم عن تفاعل أقصى مستويات الحرمان بديناميات الهوية الوطنية. أما النتيجة الأهم لهذه الدراسة رأى فيها الكاتب "أن العقلانية هي الجوهر الإجتماعي للفرد العراقي وإن كان مظلوما ومحروما وأسيرا لسادية السلطة ولا عقلانيتها".
