مادة هذا الكتاب تسعة أبحاث شاركت في مؤتمر أكاديمي أقامته الجمعية العراقية لعلم النفس السياسي، بالتعاون مع أكاديمية بغداد للعلوم الإنسانية 2019. والأبحاث متعددة الاختصاصات (علوم السياسة والاجتماع والإعلام والنفس)، شارك فيها 12 باحثة وباحثا من داخل العراق وخارجه، جرى توزيعها ضمن قسمين رئيسين: اختص الأول ببحث تمظهرات الهوية السياسية والاجتماعية في صلتها الديناميكية بانبثاق أنساق الاحتجاج العراقي، فيما اختص الثاني ببحث محركات ذلك الاحتجاج ومساراته المتشعبة ومآلاته المحتملة.
يسعى الكتاب لإظهار الصلة النشوئية الموجات الاحتجاج العراقي (2018-2011) التي حدثت تحديدا في بغداد ومحافظات الجنوب والفرات الأوسط، بمحركات التعبئة والتنظيم والبزوغ والأفول، وبأنماط الهوية والخطاب التي رافقته، وبسلوك الفاعلين والمنخرطين فيه، وبصلته الوظيفية بالانتقال التدريجي الذي يشهده العراق من سياسات الهوية إلى سياسات القضايا.
