وقد تؤثر الإضطرابات السلوكية والإنفعالية على حياة الطفل بشكل كبير، حيث تؤثر على علاقته مع أفراد الأسرة والأصدقاء، والتحصيل الأكاديمي، وبدون تدخل فإن الفرد سيعيش في ألم إنفعالي وعزلة، وسيترك المدرسة ويندمج في سلوكيات ضد المجتمع، وقد أثبتت الدراسات أن التدخل في مرحلة المدرسة الإبتدائية من خلال تقديم الخدمات المناسبة يساعد الأفراد على تحسين مستواهم الأكاديمي وتقوية علاقاتهم والوصول إلى علاقات أفضل مع الآخرين.
