الكتاب الثاني من ثلاثية الظاهر بيبرس الحملة الصليبية الفرنسية تحت قيادة الملك لويس التاسع تهدد مصر والإسلام لأن القدس كانت تحت حمايتها، ينهزم المقاتلون الأيوبيون تحت قيادة فخر الدين، أحد المقدس أكثر المقاتلين تميزاً بين المسلمين، ويَقتل فخر الدين، الطريق إلى القاهرة مفتوحة على إتساعها للصليبيين، لا يقف في طريقهم غير بيبرس، بدهانه وشجاعته، في بلدة المنصورة، ستقرر نتيجة هذه المعركة مصير مصر، والقدس، هي لحظة مصيرية في تاريخ الشرق الأوسط.
سيخاطر بيبرس، البطل المقاتل لدى الفرسان البحريين بكل شيء ليهزم الفرنجة ويطالب بمسيرته المستحقة له نحو السلطة ضمن التسلسل المملوكي، لكن الغيرة والمؤامرات تلاحق مسيرته، مهددة سمعته وحياته بوتيرة متواصلة.
يروي الكتاب الثاني من ملحمة بيبرس صعوده الحافل نحو السلطة في التسلسل الهرمي والذي سيعرف فيما بعد المماليك البحرية في مصر، يصف كذلك لقاءه المصيري مع مؤرخه ورفيقه، محيي الدين بن عبد الظاهر (عبد) الذي يوثق التاريخ في نهاية المطاف في كتابه الشهير "الروض الزاهر في سيرة الملك الظاهر".
