إن أهل الحديث مجمعون على أن الأخبار التي اشتمل عليها الصحيحان مقطوعٌ بصحة أصولها ومتونها، ولا يحصل الخـلاف فيها بحـال، وإن حصل فذاك اختلاف في طرقها ورواتها، فمن خالف حكمُـهُ خبراً منها، وليس لـه تأويل سائغ للخبر، نقضنا حكمَهُ؛ لأن هذه الأخبار تلقتها الأمة بالقَبول. وقد حام أئمةُ الحديث في القديم والحديث حول كتابي الشيخين، وعكفـوا عليهما؛ حفظـاً، وشـرحاً، وتنكيتـاً، وكلامـاً على رجالهمـا وتراجمهم، وبيان الغريب فيهما، واختصارهما، وجمـع المتفق عليـه بينهما، والاستخراج عليهما، إلى غير ذلك من وجوه العناية التامة بهما. وتأتي المستخرجات لتُدلِّل على مكانة هذين الكتابين الجليلين، ولهذه المستخرجات فوائد جمَّة يحتفي بها أولو الحصافة من أهل العلم، فقد استخرج جماعةٌ من الحفاظ المتقدمين مستخرجاتٍ عدةً على الصحيحين كان أكثرها ما استُخرج على البخاري فقط، أو على مسلم، كلٍّ على حدة. ونَدَرَ من المستخرجات ما كـان على الصحيحين معـاً في تأليف واحد، إلا ما كان من الحافـظ أبي نعيم بن الحدَّاد، فإنه ألَّف كتاباً في الجمع بين الصحيحين بأسانيده، جمع أطرافَ الصحيحين، وانتشر عنه، واستحسنه كلُّ من رآه. وقد قدَّم له بمقدمة بديعة في أهمية علم الحديث وعظيم الحاجة إليـه، والثناء على أهل الحديث، ثم دَلَف إلى ما دعاه للتأليف والاستخراج، ثم بيَّن منهجه فيه. ولعل من فوائد الكتاب العالية تلك التعاليق الفقهية والحديثية المبثوثة في ذيل الأحاديث، وتلك الترجيحات والإصابات، وحسن الترتيب الزمني للأحاديث بما يدفـع وهمَ التعارض عنـد الكثيـر من أهـل العلم، فهذه تحفة نفيسة حوت أحاديـث النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، وإن كان أكثر حروف الكتاب مذكورة في الصحيحين.
