هذه ترجمة كاملة لتاريخ غازان خان الذي يكون قسمًا مهمًا من كتاب جامع التواريخ، تأليف "رشيد الدين فضل الله الهمذاني" مؤرخ المغول الكبير والكاتب الموسوعي الذي أحاط علمه بكثير من أنواع المعارف والثقافات، ولكن شهرته كمؤرخ كانت تأتي في المقدمة دائمًا، وتبرز أهمية الكتاب فيما نقرؤه عن المغول في الأحداث التي كان يعايشها المؤرخ، فقد عاصر هذا المؤرخ دولة المغول في أبهى فتراتها، وشاهد حصار بغداد وفتحها على يد هولاكو خان، والتحق بخدمة أعظم سلاطين الإيلخانيين وبلغ أسمى المراتب في عهد غازان وأولجايتو وفترة من حكم أبي سعيد بهادر خان، ولعب دورًا هامًا في سياسة دولة المغول وإداراتها، فإذا جاء هذا المؤرخ وأرخ لهذه الفترة، فإنه يؤرخ لأحداث كان يعاصرها ويشهدها بعيني رأسه، ويصفها وصف المثقف الخبير بشئون الحياة، كذلك استطاع الاطلاع على الوثائق المكتوبة والإفادة منها، وهذه ميزة كبيرة لم تتوافر لغيره ممن كتبوا عن تاريخ المغول من السابقين أو المعاصرين له.
