اقترب الموعد وأبناء أمّ الزرانيق الأصليون يسخرون من النبأ، يدرعون الأرقّة والطرقات روحة وجيئة في الليل والنهار غير آبهين بالرّيح الصرصر القادمة إليهم، وغير مبالين بما ستسبّبه لهم من دمار وهلاك بشريّ هائل ما داموا فوق ترابها ويشربون من مائها ويتنفّسون هواءها النقيّ، استمرّوا في ممارسة حياتهم الطبيعية يؤدّون عملهم اليوميّ بالكمال والتّمام، يتبادلون الضحكات الجميلة والكلمات الناعمة والزّيارات العائليّة المعبّرة عن ترابطهم، ويوزّعون رسائل التحايا الصباحيّة الرقيقة عبر هواتفهم المحمولة.
الشيوخ يفترشون الأرض في براحة السوق الكبير، يسردون ذكريات شبابهم وأجمل حكايات رحلات الغوص وشغل الجبل وعملهم في الزراعة والدرفلة والإتصالات، وبعض منهم يرتادون المقاهي الشعبية منذ الصباح الباكر، يتسابقون على شرب الشاي وتناول الأكلات الشعبية رخيصة الثمن وهم يستمعون إلى الأهازيج الفلكوريّة وأغاني الطرب الأصيل ليوسف هزيم ومحمد زويد وأحمد الجميري ومحمد حسن، التي عادت لتصدح من جديد في السوق وحلّت مكان الموسيقى الهابطة والأغاني الدخيلة على مجتمع أمّ الزرابيق، والرجال الأشدّاء يذهبون إلى أعمالهم وهم منتشون بنور يوم جديد، تشاركهم النّساء المتعلّمات، يصطففن إلى جانبهم ويتساوين معهم في البناء، والشّباب يمارسون برامجهم الرياضيّة والفنيّة بحماس والأطفال يزحفون زرافات إلى مدارسهم.
