ليس غريباً أن يلتقي الشاعر والمناضل في شخص واحد فسليم الزعنون نهل الأدب وهو طفل كما ذاق مرارة التشريد والتهجير العتسري من أرضه ووطنه، وعندما قال الشعر في بداياته المبكرة طغت عليه مشاعره الوطنية والقومية، فانطلق وهو في سن الشباب يندد بالمتخاذلين والمترددين ويشد من أزر الثوار المقاومين الذين أبت شيمهم أن يركنوا للراحة والدعة في ظل الهوان والذل. وفي قصائده وهج الثورة وعنفوان الأرض.
وفي هذا الديوان نماذج من شعر الزعنون المقاوم، اختار الناش وتوزيعها على أبواب شعر الانتفاضة نقرأ انطلاقة فتح التي ألقيت بتاريخ 3/1/1988 والتي يقول فيها: "أنزل الحق في الكتاب جهارا، أن في الأرض شعبها الجبارا، وهتفتم يا فتية الحق إنا نسل قوم عاشوا بها أحراراً".
لكن الشاعر المرهق الحس، لا يجد بدأً من التعبير عن لواعجه وأشواقه فهو بشر وله أن يحن ويشتاق وتعليق: "أدخل في القلب، ترى قلقاً، فالوعد يصير بلا وعد، أدخل... في القلب، ترى ألقاً، شوقاً قد أوغل في الوجد أدخل في القلب، ترى كهلاً قد عذبه طول الصد".
