تلعب الصحافة الدولية دوراً مهماً في الحياة السياسية والدبلوماسية والثقافية الدولية، إذ أضحى ما تناقله هذه الصحف من معلومات حول الشعوب والأمم الأخرى مصدر جذب هام للباحثين والساسة ورجال الفكر، فضلاً عن إسهامها في تشكيل الرأي العام العالمي حول القضايا الدولية الهامة. وتلعب بعض الصحف الدولية دوراً هاماً كأدوات للسياسات الخارجية للدول، بحيث تقوم بشكل أو بآخر بتهيئة الأجواء النفسية المناسبة للشروع في سياسات معينة في مناطق العالم المختلفة.
يأتي هذا الكتاب كثمرة جهود استمرت سنوات استجابة لحاجة طلبة قسم الإعلام في كلية الآداب بجامعة تكريت إلى معلوماته والذي تطابقت محتوياته مع المفردات التي أقرتها لجنة عمداء كليات الآداب والإعلام في الجامعات العراقية عام 2013.
وقد حرص مؤلف هذا الكتاب على دراسة الصحافة العربية ذات الإتجاه الدولي كان من بينها تجارب: صحيفة الإهرام وصحيفة الخليج الإماراتية وصحيفة الإتحاد الإماراتية كصحف دولية. وجرى التطرّق أيضاً إلى أهم النماذج الرائدة في مجال الصحافة الدولية كالصحف الأمريكية والبريطانية والفرنسية، فضلاً عن الإتجاهات والأشكال الحديثة في يالصحافة الدولية منها: صحافة المواطن وصحافة المدونات والصحافة الإستقصائية والصحافة المجانية. كذلك جرى تناول نظريات الصحافة الدولية، وتسليط الضوء على بعض المعلومات المتعلقة بأهم مواقع التواصل الإجتماعي ودورها في خدمة الصحافة العالمية والمعلومات المتعلقة بأهم الهيئات والمنظمات في هذا المجال.
إن الدور المتنامي للصحافة الدولية في أوساط الرأي العام المحلي والعربي والدولي يضاعف من أهمية هذا الكتاب كون هذه الصحافة وبفضل شبكة الانترنت أضحت تؤرق الساهرين على المجال السيادي للدول، لا سيما الدول النامية ذات الأنظمة الشمولية، ويؤرقهم أكثر أن يصبح هذا الطوفان الإعلامي خارج السيطرة تماماً، وعابراً للحدود، ملغياً كل أشكال الرقابة على الصحف.
