هذا الكتاب يلقي الضوء على إحدى القضايا ذات الصلة الوثيقة بأساليب تنشئة أطفالنا، ذلك أنه يعالج قضية على قدر كبير من الأهمية وهي التعامل مع الأطفال حين ينشأ التنافس بينهم، ومن ثم يشرح المفهوم، ويتناول أساليب ظهوره، ويركز على دور الوالدين، والأم تحديداً، ولا يقف عند هذا الحد، بل يحذر من تفاهمه، ويضع عشرات النصائح التي تقلل من أثاره وذلك منذ الطفولة حتى المراهقة، ولا يزعم الكتاب أنه يقضي على ظاهرة التنافس بين الأشقاء، قضاء تاماً، لأنه لا يمكن لأحد أن يزعم ذلك، فسوف يظل التنافس بين الأشقاء موجوداً طاما كان هناك أشقاء، ولكن هذا الكتاب هدفه المحوري هو الحد منه حتى لا يتحول في لحظة من اللحظات، أو في موقف من المؤلف إلى غيره، يضطرب معها سلوك أطفالنا، وتضطرب معها كل أحوال الأسرة، ومن ثم قد يحدث ما لا تحمد عقباه.
والكتاب تتسم معالجته بالموضعية الشديدة، والبساطة الأشد، وهو يعرض الحقائق بأساليب سهلة ميسرة، لا يعتمد فيها اللجوء إلى مصطلحات نظرية أو فنية معقدة، غير أنني وجدتني في بعض عناوينه الجانبية مضطراً إلى توضيح بعض كلماته، إضافة بعض الأضواء على شكل تعقيبات أو نصوص تمهيدية تضع القارئ في سياق المقصود من هذا العنوان أو ذلك النص، أو الخلفية التي تزيد الكلام وضوحاً وسهولة، ولذلك يستحق الكتاب أن يكون في مكتبة كل أسرة حديثة التكوين أعني ذات طفل أو أكثر، فهو يزودها بمعلومات لا غنى عنها عن تناول ظاهرة تنافس الأشقاء، وكيف يتصرف جميع أفراد الأسرة، والأم تحديداً، ولا يترك شاردة، ولا واردة إلا يفصلها تفصيلاً يقتضيه السياق.
