يتوجه هذا الكتاب القيّم إلى المثقفين والباحثين والمهتمين بتاريخ اليمن العسكري، وكذلك إلى الجنود والضباط والمسؤولين في القوات اليمنية المسلحة، حيث يكاد يكون الأول من نوعه في هذا المجال، إذ أنه لم يظهر إلى اليوم كتاب يؤرخ للجيش اليمني ونشوء المؤسسات العسكرية وتطوراتها على مستوى الساحة اليمنية كلها، ولا ظهر أي مؤلف إستطاع مثله أن يربط بين نشوء هذه المؤسسات العسكرية وخلفياتها السياسية إبان الإستعمارين التركي والبريطاني وحكم الأئمة والسلاطين في جنوب الوطن وشماله وما تخلل هذه الفترة الهامة من تاريخ اليمني من قضايا وأحداث وإنتفاضات وثورات تعبر عن المقاومة لشعب اليمني ضد الإحتلال الأجنبي وضد الظلم والطغيان في كل أشكاله وصوره.
ويمثل هذا الكتاب جانباً مشرقاً من جوانب الثقافة اليمنية ذلك لأنه يتحدث عن الشعب اليمني كجيش وعن الجيش اليمني كشعب، ويتحدث بعد ذلك عن تاريخ اليمن السياسي معتمداً على الكثير من المصادر بطريقة أكاديمية حية مما يعطي هذا الكتاب الحق في أن يكون كتاباً يدرس في الكليات العسكرية اليمنية وبعض المعاهد والكليات الجامعية، لأنه يغطي فترة من تاريخ اليمن العسكري بذل فيها الكثير من الجهد والوقت.
