"سراي السلطان" أحد النصوص الأوروبية المشوقة التي تناولتْ تفاصيل الدولة والمجتمع العثماني أوائل القرن السابع عشر؛ اذ يتضمن وصفاً للقصر السلطاني وأجنحته ومرافقه، وتفصيلاً للوظائف العثمانية، كما يسهب في بيان أحوال الأتراك وعاداتهم وطرائقهم، ويأنس القارئ في ثنايا النص اشاراتٍ غنيةً حول الظروف الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والثقافية للدولة آنذاك. ويعد «سراي السلطان» عملاً فريداً في شكله، فلا يكاد يدخل في باب التقارير السفارية أو الدبلوماسية أو الرحلات الرسمية؛ فهو يقدم عرضاً للحياة السياسية والادارية في القسْطنطينية، ويعرض للجوانب الاجتماعية والاقتصادية، ويتوقف عند العادات: الدينية منها والتقليدية، ويبدو أن النص موجهٌ للقارئ العادي لا للنخبة السياسية. ولهذا الكتاب أهمية تتمثل في كونه يوثق لنا انطباعات الغرب المسيحي عن المشرق الاسلامي في أوائل القرن السابع عشر اضافة لدقة المعلومات الواردة فيه وتطابقها مع المصادر التاريخية والتزام الكاتب الموضوعية على خلاف كثيرٍ ممن سبقوه ومن جاؤوا بعده. كما يحوي الكتاب اشاراتٍ ومعلومات قد لا تتوافر في كتب التاريخ المباشر، وبهذا فان صدوره يعد محفزاً لدراسة النصوص الأوروبية القديمة وترجمتها ونشرها.
