بعد عام على نشرها، حازت رواية "ثمار الذهب"، للأدبية الفرنسية ناتالي سارّوت (1900- 1999)، على الجائزة العالمية للأدب، في العام 1964، كانت الأدبية ناتالي سارّوت من رائدات الموجة الجديدة في الأدب الفرنسي.
يمكن القول إنّ هذه الرواية قد جسّدت التجريد في الأدب الفرنسي، ليس ثمّة من حبكة، في الرواية، أما الشخصيات فهي مُغفلة الأسماء؛ والمتخَيّل فيها متداخل بالواقعي، ولا إنفصام بينهما.
في المشاهد الأربعة عشر التي تتألف منها الرواية، تتحدّث شخصيات، مُغفلة الأسماء، عن كتاب بعنوان "ثمار الذهب"، تجري الحوارات بينها في جوّ لا وضوح فيه، لكنها تتوضّح، شيئاً فشيئاً، عبر حوارات ثانوية تأخذ شكل الحكايات أو شكل الحالات المتخَيّلة.
ليس ثمة من راوٍ في هذه الرواية كما لا يوجد فيها شخصية أساسية ولا حبكة تجمع بين هذه المشاهد المتفرقة.
وفقاً لما قالته الأدبية ناتالي سارَّوت عن روايتها هذه، فإنها تتميّز برؤية هندسية تأخذ شكل "المنحني الصاعد، ثم المنحني الهابط"!...
