يعد ((سراي السلطان)) من بين النصوص الأوروبية القيمة التي تناولت تفاصيل الدولة العثمانية أوائل القرن السابع عشر. يتضمن النص وصفا ضافيا للقصر السلطاني وأجنحته، وتفصيلا للوظائف العثمانية، كما يسهب في بيان أحوال الأتراك وعوائدهم. ويأنس القارئ في ثنايا النص إشارات غنية، حول الظروف الاجتماعية، والاقتصادية، والثقافية، للدولة آنذاك. يتضمن الكتاب دراسة تمهيدية حول النص الإيطالي وعلاقات الدولة العثمانية بأوروبا، والبندقية على وجه الخصوص؛ وعن الدبلوماسية العثمانية مطلع القرن السابع عشر. ولهذا الكتاب أهمية تتمثل في كونه يوثق انطباعات الغرب المسيحي عن الشرق الإسلامي، أوائل القرن السابع عشر، إضافة إلى دقة المعلومات الواردة فيه.
