مع إفتقاد النظرة إلى نسق قيم الدين، ومع إختلال مفاهيمه الكبرى، وإختلاط دوائر فعل النص؛ فقد الدين فاعليّته، وأصبح جزءاً من المشكلة بدلاً من أن يكون جزءاً من الحل؛ إذ إن الإستدعاء الفردي للنصوص من غير النظام الكلّي الذي تشتغل عليه هذه النصوص هو سبب أساس في إشاعة الإضطراب في كل أوجه الحياة داخل البيئة الإسلامية إلى حدّ التناقض المفضي إلى الهلاك، فما كان صالحاً من بساطة الرؤية في البدايات، لم يعد مجدياً في عصر التعقيد والبيئات المفتوحة.
يدعو هذا الكتاب إلى رؤية الدين من زاوية النسق القيمي العميق، بحيث تتساند القيم في صناعة التصوّر من دون تشتّت تضيع معه الصورة الكلّية، ويتمنى المؤلّف في كتابه أن يرى القارئ قيمة النسق، وأن يجده حريّاً بالتبني، بديلاً عن النظرة المجزّأة للدين؛ لتختفي تلك الإستدعاءات المجتزَأة.
يبحث هذا الكتاب عن النسق الأكبر الجامع فقط، من دون إستعراض للأنساق الصغرى التي تنتظم فيه مثل: نسق الجبر والإختيار، والنسق الذي تُستدعى فيه سنن الله في الكون والأنفس، والنسق الذي تُستدعى فيه التزكية وقضية الحرب، ونسق قضية المرأة.
