منذ أول لحظة تدرك فيها حواسنا وجود آبائنا ستبدو لنا الحياة كما هي عليه ظاهرياً، وبدون ذنب منها ومنهم يبدأ آباؤنا عملية برمجتنا وفقاً لرؤيتهم الخاصة للحياة، هذه الرؤية التي تشربوها من خلال التعليم والبيئة الإجتماعية والعمل ووسائل الإعلام، ثم يتابع التعليم الرسمي من خلال المدارس والكليات والجامعات المنهجية بتزويدنا بالأفكار التي تعتبر وجهات النظر والتفسيرات "الصحيحة" المتعلقة بالعلوم وبالتاريخ وبالمجتمع، وهي الأفكار ذاتها التي تضمن لنا اجتياز الإمتحانات النهائية وتمنحنا القدرة على السير قدماً في الحياة.
أما إتباع وجهات النظر المخالفة لما نتعلّمه رسمياً ورفض التعليم المنهجي التقليدي، فيؤدي وفقاً للإعتقاد السائد إلى تناقص فرص الفرد في الحصول على عمل ووظيفة محترمة وإلى الشقاء في الحياة نتيجة للفقر.
إن كل فهمنا للعالم والأحداث الدولية الجارية نستسيغها من خلال وسائل الإعلام، ثم يتم تحليلها وصياغتها من قبل الصحافيين والخبراء المزعومين، لتصبح أفكارهم ببساطة هي أفكارنا، وقناعاتهم هي قناعاتنا، خاصة، وأنه لم يتوفر لدينا أي بدائل أخرى للمعلومات.
ولنتغلب على مشاكل مجتمعاتنا اليومية والصعوبات التي نواجهها فقد وكلناها إلى نوِّاب منتخبين وزعماء وأشخاص مختارين، وقد سلمنا إمكانياتنا في صنع القرار لهؤلاء القلة الذين هم يعيدون جداً عنا وعن همومنا اليومية، يتم تحديد تجربتنا في الحياة وفقاً للإطار العام الذي يحكم مجتمعنا.
هذا الإطار الذي نجهل من رسمه ومتى وكيف ولمصلحة من، ورغم أنه لا يناسبنا إلا أن علينا الإلتزام به دون تدمّر وتقصير.
