محمد بن جعفر بن إدريس الكتاني الحسني الفاسي، أبو عبد الله: مؤرخ محدث، مكثر من التصنيف.
مولده ووفاته بفاس.
رحل إلى الحجاز مرتين، وهاجر بأهله إلى المدينة سنة 1332 ه، فأقام إلى سنة 1338 وانتقل إلى دمشق فسكنها إلى سنة 1345 وعاد إلى المغرب، فتوفي في بلده.
له نحو 60 كتابا، منها (نظم المتناثر في الحديث المتواتر - ط) و (الدعامة في أحكام العمامة - ط) و (الرسالة المستطرفة - ط) و (المولد النبوي - ط) و (سلوة الانفاس - ط) في تراجم علماء فاس وصلحائها، ثلاثة أجزاء، و (الازهار العاطرة الانفاس - ط) في سيرة السيد إدريس، و (النبذة اليسيرة النافعة - خ) في تراجم رجال الاسرة الكتانية، ختمه بترجمة لنفسه ذكر بها تآليفه ومشايخه وبعض ذكرياته، رأيت الجزء الثاني منه عند محمد إبراهيم الكتاني، بالرباط
