"دهاة العرب أربعة: معاوية بن أبي سفيان، وعمرو بن العاص، والمغيرة بن شعبة، وزياد بن أبيه، أما معاوية فللأناة والحلم، وأما عمرو فللمعضلات، وأما المغيرة للمبادهة، وأما زياد فللصغير والكبير".
وهذا دليل على أن جيل الصحابة كان فيه دهاء ودهاة، وأن الدعاء لا ينقص من الإيمان فالصحابة رضوان الله عليهم وهم الجيل القدوة والمثل بشر، لهم نوازعهم البشرية، وطموحاتهم الإنسانية، واجتهاداتهم الدينية، فيصيبون ويخطئون، فإن أصابوا فهم مأجورون، وإن أخطأوا فهم يتوبون، لأنهم غير معصومين وتدين المسلم في كل العصور- اقتداء بجيل القدوة وهم الصحابة رضوان الله عليهم- لا يمنعه من ممارسة الدهاء ليحقق أهدافه ويقضي مصالحه، لأن الدهاء يعني البصر بالأمور، ولا يعني المكر والخداع، وهذا الكتاب حديث عن أحد دهاة العرب الأربعة الكبار، وفيه تدارس لسيرته وتذكير بمواقفهم.
